The
Legends of the St. Louis Blues
The Framery in historic Soulard presents a unique celebration in art
of one of the most significant cities in Blues and Jazz music history,
The Legends of the St Louis Blues.
Rarely
heralded for its importance, but long regarded as a cradle for Blues
and Jazz, St Louis was the launching pad for the careers of such
legends as Roosevelt Sykes, Victoria Spivey, Lonnie Johnson, Walter
Davis, Henry Townsend and the notorious Peetie Wheatstraw. These
are the men and women who broke new ground in the 1920s with their
music in the formative years of the Blues.
This
commemorative print offered by The Framery pays tribute to those artists
of the blues and the heritage of the city. The rich and compelling
artwork is by Kevin Belford, a popular local artist who is nationally
known for his unique blues paintings. His work has been exhibited
nationally and internationally, and is in many collections worldwide.
Fedora Records, Delmark Records, the St Louis Blues Society and other
organizations have commissioned Belford's art and his portraits of
St Louis music legends have been exhibited in St Louis at universities,
the St Louis Artists Guild, the Sheldon Gallery and on permanent display
at BB’s Jazz, Blues and Soups. His "old school" method
of painting combines the classic traditions of realism with present
day design sensibilities to create beautiful and fascinating works
that are accurate and vibrant. They call to you from across the room
and draw you in. The colors are big and the subjects are larger than
life. This piece will enhance any room and most likely will be a collector's
item as the print run is limited. Order yours from the Framery today. |
